Social Media Intern: Civic Engagement & Community Storytelling (San Francisco)

Organization: Save Cantonese
Location: San Francisco Bay Area (hybrid: must be able to attend events in person)
Duration: May – December 2026
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours/week
Compensation: $5,000 stipend

About the Role

Save Cantonese is seeking a Social Media Intern focused on civic engagement and community storytelling. This role supports digital campaigns that elevate Cantonese voices, promote advocacy efforts, and increase awareness around language access, cultural preservation, and issues impacting AANHPI communities, including efforts to advocate for Cantonese language classes at City College of San Francisco (CCSF).

What You’ll Do

  • Create short-form content (Reels, TikToks, posts) highlighting community issues and events
  • Attend and document community events in person, forums, and outreach activities
  • Write captions and informational posts that are engaging and accessible
  • Support campaigns related to language justice, civic participation, and representation
  • Help grow Save Cantonese’s digital presence and community engagement

Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • Interest in the Cantonese community, AANHPI issues, or cultural advocacy
  • Interest in social media, storytelling, or digital content creation
  • Comfortable with platforms like Instagram and TikTok
  • Organized, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Cantonese language skills are a plus but not required

Additional Requirement

  • Must be able to attend weekly team meetings on Wednesdays from 5:30–6:30 PM PT (via Zoom)
