Summer Camp Internship – Pediatric First Aid & Camp Counselor
Location: Long Grove Country School
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Duration: Summer Camp Season – 8 Weeks: June 1 – July 1.
Position Overview
This hands-on internship is designed for college students pursuing a career in pediatric nursing or healthcare. The intern will play a dual role—serving as the camp’s primary First Aid Caregiver while also working alongside Leadership Counselors to support and mentor middle school campers.
This is a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in child health, safety, and development in a fun, active outdoor camp setting.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety (Primary Role)
- Serve as the first responder for minor injuries and illnesses
- Administer basic first aid and document all incidents
- Monitor campers with specific medical needs (e.g., allergies, asthma, diabetes)
- Support medication administration in accordance with camp policies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of first aid supplies and station
- Communicate with camp leadership and families when necessary
Counselor Support (Secondary Role)
- Partner with Leadership Counselors to guide and supervise middle school campers
- Assist with daily camp activities, transitions, and group management
- Build positive relationships with campers and serve as a role model
- Support social-emotional development and inclusion within groups
Qualifications
- Current college student pursuing Nursing, Pre-Med, Public Health, or related field
- CPR & First Aid Certification (required)
- Experience working with children (camp, school, babysitting, etc.)
- Experience with diabetes care (preferred) or willingness to learn
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Calm, confident demeanor in responding to health-related situations
- Team-oriented with a positive, energetic attitude
